The American Community School is not a completely new one. In the 1950's a school was set up for American children in Addis Ababa. Several years later, it was replaced by a small Department of Defense school which met in a compound near the American Embassy. It was not until September, 1966, that 362 students moved on to the grounds we are using now--fifteen acres of land granted by His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I on a fifty year lease. The school has grown in many directions since then. New buildings have been added to accommodate the influx of students, and in March of 1970, the bog, new gym was finished. It added another dimension in the continuing movement to provide the students with a fuller educational program. The total enrollment now surpasses the 500 mark, and this year's graduating class was the largest the school has ever had.

ADVERTISEMENTS
A TIME TO BE INDUSTRIOUS

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The yearbook staff, on completion of the 1970 JIB, wishes to extend its deepest thanks to: Mrs. Kiros, for her many trips to the photographer's and printers and for her patient supervision. She held the staff together, and, without her, there could not have been a yearbook. Mr. McElroy, for his many hours of picture-taking--activities, organizations, and candids. Neal Sabaina, for many candids, and for the cheerleaders' pictures. Ted Matheny, who sold the majority of the advertisements and spent much time on taking elementary candids. Joe Cox, for his doodles and art work. The Staff also wishes to acknowledge the advertisers, for their financial support, Mr. Kyrias from Color Lab, for the pictures of Grades 1--11 and of the teachers, Ethiophoto, for the senior pictures, and Mr. Vartkes of Commercial Printing Press. Dawn Matheny Editor

Time it was, And what a time it was... It was.... A time of innocence.

A time of confidences Long ago....it must be.... I have a photograph.
Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you.
