The United States Marines and the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia conducted their 1966 and 1967 Marine Birthday Balls at the Mapping Mission facility near the old airport.  In 1968 they switched to the Itegue Menen hotel near the MAAG headquarters (the hotel with the caged lion outside in the parking lot).

The Marine detachment, in the receiving line, are:  SSgt Art Stewart (now a retired SgtMaj), Sgt Grady Deaton, Sgt Don Haisch, Sgt Rusty Lundy (not visible -- now a DAC in Huntsville, AL), Cpl Steve Ekins, and Cpl Joe Waldron.
